Team Pictures Rescheduled for Tuesday, February 23

Winter sports team pictures have been rescheduled for Tuesday, February 23. They were originally scheduled for February 1, but were canceled due to the snow. Please meet in the gym by 3:15 and change into your white home jersey for the picture. If you would like to order team or individual pictures, bring the order form with you, along with a check. If you no longer have the order form, just bring a check and you can complete a new order form prior to the picture.

Game 14 Recap: Cardinal Gibbons 32, Chapel Hill 19

Cardinal Gibbons finished its season on Wednesday with a 32-19 win over Chapel Hill. The victory gives the Crusaders the conference championship for JV girls basketball with a 4-0 conference record. Gibbons also finishes with a winning record of 8-6 overall, including five straight wins to end the season. Maggie Tardif scored 12 points (on four three-pointers) and also added eight rebounds and four blocked shots to lead the way. Fellow sophomores Derian Boch, Paris Pope, Megan Summers and Sarah Thomas also got the start in their final JV game and each contributed to the victory. The Crusaders' pressure defense forced the Tigers into 40 turnovers for the game and led to many fast-break opportunities.

Tipoff time for the final game of the season against Chapel Hill has been changed to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, February 10.

Game 13 Recap: Cardinal Gibbons 30, Orange 27

Cardinal Gibbons defeated Orange on Monday by a score of 30-27 to improve to 3-0 in the conference (7-6 overall). This was the Crusaders first game in two weeks due to the snow postponements, but they got off to a quick start making their first two shots of the game. Play throughout the first hald was dominated by both defenses and the Panthers held a slim 11-8 lead entering halftime. Both teams picked up the offense in the second half and Gibbons was able to take the lead midway through the third quarter. Down the stretch, Orange had several opportunities to tie, but the Crusaders defense held tough to preserve the victory. Gibbons was led by Catherine Todd with 12 points and Sarah Thomas with 10 rebounds. Maggie Tardiff played a solid all-around game posting 6 points, 7 rebounds and 4 blocked shots. On Wednesday, Gibbons will play its final game of the season, hosting conference-rival Chapel Hill at 7:00 pm.

Game 12 Recap: Cardinal Gibbons 49, St. Mary's 27

Cardinal Gibbons defeated St. Mary's on Monday by a score of 49-27. The Crusaders played outstanding basketball during the second and third quarters to take control of the game and build an insurmountable lead. Gibbons was led in scoring by Paris Pope with 10 points and Catherine Todd with 8. Mary Wood led in rebounding with 11, while Derian Boch posted a game-high 4 assists. Katie Magee and Sarah Thomas each recorded personal scoring highs in the game with 6 and 5 points, respectively. The win evens the Crusaders' overall record at 6-6. On Friday, Gibbons will play its final home game of the season against conference-rival Chapel Hill.

Game 11 Recap: Cardinal Gibbons 38, Orange 28

Cardinal Gibbons improved to 2-0 in the conference (5-6 overall) with a 38-28 win over Orange on Friday. The Crusaders scored 16 points and forced 12 turnovers during the third quarter to take a commanding 19-point lead, and then was able to hold off the Panthers' comeback efforts in the fourth quarter. Maggie Tardif led Gibbons with 9 points (coming from three made three-pointers) and 9 rebounds. Gabi Lavelle and Emily McCrorie added 8 points each and were among eight Crusaders who scored points in the game. Seven different players notched at least one assist in the game, leading to a team total of 11 assists on the 13 made baskets. Next up, Gibbons will step out of conference to play St. Mary's on Monday.

Game 10 Recap: Cardinal Gibbons 40, Chapel Hill 18

Cardinal Gibbons opened conference play with a 40-18 win over Chapel Hill on Tuesday. The Crusaders used a strong defensive effort in the first half in which they held the Tigers to one made field goal, while forcing 20 turnovers. All members of the Gibbons teams made solid contributions to the victory. Maggie Tardif hit two three-pointers as part of her 8 points, and Catherine Todd added 8 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists and 5 steals. Sarah Thomas continued her stellar defensive play forcing an amazing 8 jump balls during the game, and finishing with 7 rebounds and 7 steals. Gibbons now stands at 4-6 overall (1-0 in the conference) and will next host Southern Vance on Friday.

Game 9 Recap: Ravenscroft 41, Cardinal Gibbons 24

Cardinal Gibbons (3-6) fell to rival Ravenscroft on Saturday by a score of 41-24. Despite a cold shooting game, the Crusaders used pressure defense to force the Ravens into 32 turnovers and keep the score close until the fourth quarter. Gibbons was also aggressive in attacking the basket, resulting in 26 free throw attempts. Paris Pope led the Crusaders with 7 points and 6 steals, and Gabi Lavelle added 6 points. Sarah Thomas provided a spark off the bench with a season high 10 rebounds. Gibbons now begins conference play in the new Carolina 3-A conference with a game at Chapel Hill on Tuesday.

Game 8 Recap: Hillside 54, Cardinal Gibbons 45

Cardinal Gibbons played a hard-fought close game against Hillside on Wednesday, but in the end fell by a score of 54-45. The Crusaders trailed by 2 at halftime before gaining a lead early in the third quarter. However, the Hornets responded to regain the lead and hold on for the victory. Paris Pope led Gibbons with 16 points and also contributed 6 steals. Catherine Todd also scored in double figures, with 10. Maggie Tardif played strong defense in the lane, blocking 8 shots and collecting 12 rebounds. Gibbons' season record now stands at 3-5 after the loss. Next up is the annual rivalry game at Ravenscroft on Saturday afternoon.

Game 7 Recap: Cardinal Gibbons 35, Durham Academy 21

Cardinal Gibbons (3-4) returned from break on Tuesday with a solid 35-21 victory over Durham Academy (2-3). A strong first half led to a 16 point lead at halftime. The Crusaders pressure defense forced 29 turnovers in the game which resulted in many fast break opportunities. All eleven players who played in the game contributed positively to the victory, with each player recording at least two rebounds. Maggie Tardif led the scoring with 7 points, while Emily McCrorie led in rebounds with 7. Derian Boch and Megan Summers did an excellent job of distirbuting the ball, recording 5 and 4 assists, respectively. Gibbons plays again on Wednesday, when they host Hillside in a rematch of a game from early December.
